Cape Romano

Cape Romano Beach
Cape Romano is a cape at the southern end of Caxambas Island, just south of Marco Island and northwest of the Ten Thousand Islands in Collier County, Florida.
Calusa Indians founded the settlement and called it Manataca. Juan Ponce de León briefly stopped at Manataca on his first trip from Puerto Rico to Florida, but the Indians tried to fight him off.
Cape Romano was the spot where Hurricane Wilma made its first U.S. landfall in October 2005. Tropical Storm Fay also made landfall here in 2008.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²). 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water
Coquina Beach
A close up of Coquina Beach sand. Coquina is mainly composed of mineral calcite, often including some phosphate, in the form of seashells or coral. It is found in surface exposures along the east coast of Florida from St. Johns County to Palm Beach County. It may occur up to 20 miles inland from the coast in the sub-surface. It has also been formed in the South Island of New Zealand, where it outcrops in a disused quarry near Oamaru. The Oligocene deposits here are composed primarily of very well preserved brachiopod shells, in a matrix of brachiopod, echinoid, and bryozoan detritus and foraminifera.
